Sheer Mittmentum

Yes, we’ve already all been shocked, shocked I tell you, to hear that richy rich vulture crapitalist Mitt Romney has confessed that he is "not concerned about the very poor.” But, what interests me is that the quote continued on to say, “We have a safety net there. [notice that the poor are “there” – as if in some mystical land, not here, but, you know, “there” --d] If it needs a repair, I'll fix it.” Given that Romney in his victory speech last night (victory scare-quoted because I don’t know that “victory” is really the word you should use to describe the outcome of outspending all your opponents five to one only to secure less than half of the votes of your own party’s lower turnout) promised that “without raising taxes, I will finally balance the budget," and this has to mean either even more debt or dismantling even more of the safety net, it is hard to see how “fixing the safety net […there]” is part of this picture. Perhaps he means “fix” more in “the fix is in” sense, more in line with his job creation for Switzerland and the Cayman Islands while cutting his own taxes in half program more generally. Of course, it is probably unfair to apply logic to a man who has actually no core convictions or premises, but, well, you know… dude’s a robot.

Or, "the fix we're in" sense.
Or maybe, "I'll fix **you**."
