California Overturns Gay Marriage Ban

[I]n view of the substance and significance of the fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship, the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all Californians, whether gay or heterosexual, and to same-sex couples as well as to opposite-sex couples.

    Well, yay if it sticks. As the front page of the New York Times
    this morning is careful to point out, the ruling goes into
    effect in 30 days "unless the court decides to grant a stay",
    and the ruling was "decried" by conservative and religious
    groups, who have sworn to have California's constitution amended.
