I think we can label this the bargaining It seems to manifest along the lines of the individual's pet fantasies. If you're squinting hard for silver linings i suppose you could say it's a progression away from outright denial and one step closer to anger, despair and acceptance. Although many deniers will never make it all the way there's too many delusional offramps available.

But you're right it's an enabling fantasy.
