FEAR OF A QUEER PLANET

Don't forget to add Russia, of course, not to mention some of our own neo-Confederate hate states (like those in which lovely Baton Rouge judges are still punishing folks using sodomy laws declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court)! While this figure is exposing the reality of terrible human suffering that must be faced and changed, it is also important not to use this all too familiar mapping of the civilizing imaginary to indulge in a false and facile self-congratulation that mistakes shallow, recent, incomplete progress somewhere with the actual and sustainable accomplishment of equity-in-diversity anywhere. And speaking of the fear of a queer planet versus the neoliberal mapping of "the anti-gay world," let me just add that there are queerer things in heaven and earth, Gay-ratio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
