For Pete's Sake Just Look At the Tape

Those who are leaping to the defense of this cop need to actually spend the half minute it takes to watch the damn tape first. This extraordinary and to say the least excessive force would not be justified even if this obviously nonthreatening woman exercising her constitutionally protected right to free assembly in this country actually had sprayed this officer with water, but quite apart from all that it is conspicuously clear from the tape that the water sprays from off frame well away from the woman thereupon brutally attacked by this cop. Don't get this twisted people. This is an obvious outrage.

She had a can of silly string. She blows some of it on the cops and then sort of just drops it at her feet. You can see it on the ground as she moves away. The water comes in from off frame and the whole line of cops turns around and she's right there. Then the dude just sucker punches her. Why do that? Is he just a violent asshole? Glad they caught it on video.

I just want to point out that there are whole worlds of organizing documentation, community outreach, sensitivity training, good-faith stakeholder mediation, legal and other protest possibilities between the extremes of a complete cynical capitulation to routine police violence and what amounts to a comparably cynical declaration of total war on the pigs.
