Science fiction still is very much a preserve of male protagonists, mostly performing by-the-numbers quests. The Other Half of the Sky offers readers heroes who happen to be women, doing whatever they would do in universes where they’re fully human -- editor of the anthology, Athena AndreadisAthena has posted the upcoming anthology's table of contents on her blog, but, even better, has posted compelling teaser passages from each one. I was already excited, but now I'm hooked!

We've recently enjoyed a spate of slipstream arthouse SF movies with female protagonists.
Iron Sky, Melancholia, Monsters, Never Let Me Go and Another Earth come to mind but I'm probably missing a few.
Thanks for the signal boost, Dale. Jollyspaniard, this is mythic space opera, a mode that purportedly "women don't/can't write" Cherryh, Friedman, Mixon et al, ad semi-infinitum, to the contrary.
My pleasure.
