This Is How We Do It (to Death)

Those who bemoan the fact that we seem to be talking much more about Beer Summits and Birthers rather than the necessity for an actually functional healthcare system in America, need to grasp the far more devastating reality that these discussions of whether or not the President was right to attest to the obvious fact and stupidity of racial profiling or of whether or not the President who was obviously born in Hawaii is actually an American citizen represent the disastrous form in which America is indeed talking about healthcare, that the anxieties, resentments, and rages mobilized by the reactionaries who declare as "racist" or "sexist" any actual or possible diminution of white-racist patriarchy are in fact definitively articulated and exacerbated by the profound vulnerability and inequity of a society without a functioning system of general welfare to ensure liberty and justice for all, them least of all. It is, of course, precisely because there is no public health care system available to them that the Birthers and White-Racists more generally cannot discuss or allow anybody to discuss the failures of health care that in no small part contribute to and endlessly refuel their hatefulness and hysteria.

"It is human frailty that makes 'it' be a conservative.
You know what I mean? Whoever the person is -- and this
transcends gender and skin color -- people that cleave unto
the conservative message or to the modern-day Republican party --
it is, there is something wrong with them. That that is what
makes them. . . have you ever heard the phrase 'the
Constitution follows the flag'? Whevever the American flag
flies, the manifestations of the Constitution follow?
OK. Wherever the. . . **jerk** is, the manifestations of
conservatism follow."

"John Dean wrote about this. It's not conservatism anymore,
it's authoritarianism."

"Oh, not at all. It's the authoritarian message and people
that follow the authoritarian message. But it is the unrestrained
Id. It is whatever's wrong with us. It is whatever the flaws
in the human being. . . And I'm a narcissist that suffers with
self-loathing. But I prefer to channel my issues into a much
more positive direction. . ."
