That sound you hear is baby Jesus crying.

I'm reminded here of a cynical remark made by one of the ex-Mormons
posting vlogs on YouTube (probably one of the gay ex-Mormon
interviews labelled "MorMenLikeMe").

One guy, when asked if the LDS church was ever likely to change
its stand on homosexuality, responded: Well, it's like this.
Prior to 1978, the LDS church held, as official doctrine, that
black people, as the descendants of Cain, were not fit for
the priesthood or to hold positions of authority in the
church. When this doctrine seemed to be leading to a political
confrontation that would have threatened the church's tax-exempt status,
the then-current prophet of the LDS church had -- in a very conveniently-
timed revelation -- a message from God informing him that black
people were, after all, fit to be accorded the same rights
and privileges within the church as whites. Very,
very timely, that bit of divine inspiration.

Nowadays, folks in the church do not talk about, or want
to be reminded of, the unfortunate pre-1978 doctrine regarding
race relations in the LDS church.

So this guy predicted that the LDS church will change its tune
on homosexuality if and when similar political pressures
"open a channel to God" for some future prophet.

"Captain, incoming message from God on subspace frequency three,
ship-to-ship.

Put it on the speaker, Miss Uhura!"

I genuinely don't get it. If these people think their views are correct, why are they so embarassed by them?
