Sorry, Wrong Number

This will be old news to some, but Eric has just informed me that scholars have called seriously into question whether the original Number of the Beast in the Biblical Book of Revelations was actually 616 rather than 666.

Insert obvious truism about the idiocy of fundamentalist literalism here.

I must say that it is rather disappointing that my pet theory about
R o n a l d
W i l s o n
R e a g a n

looks to be decisively dashed.

"The judgment of history may well be that the United States
has been "taken into, and kept in, the Iraq War by a guy
who is not quite right in his head," a distinguished legal
scholar says.

"It may take 25 or 50 years, but it is almost certain that
one day this character will be exhibit number one for the
danger of having a nut job in the oval office," says
Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law
at Andover.

Speaking of, er, nut jobs, check out the latest Star Trek
movie trailers http://www.startrekmovie.com/ . It appears
to be pretty testosterone-drenched.

A 13-ish James Tiberius Kirk, fleeing from the robocop,
almost pulls a Thelma & Louise driving what appears to
be a red '66 Corvette, jumping out and dangling by his
fingertips as the car plunges off the edge of the butte.

And this is the guy Starfleet sends out to handle first
contact with alien races. Didn't he end up starting
a war with the Minbari? Oh, sorry, different show.
