The Ad That Fox Won't Run

[via ThinkProgress]

In an email provided to Media Matters for America by the Center [for Constitutional Rights that produced the ad], Fox News account executive Erin Kelly told Owen Henkel, the Center's e-communications manager, that Fox would not run the ad:
We cannot approve the spot with it being Danny Glover's opinion that the Bush Administration is destroying the Constitution. If you have documentation that it is indeed being destroyed, we can look at that.

Well, this is the network one of whose TV station managers told his own
news journalists "We will decide what the news is. The news is what
we tell you it is."

As reported by Jeanette Batz in the St. Louis newsweekly, _Riverfront Times_,
David Boylan, WTVT station manager, was blunt in demanding that Akre and Wilson
tell the story about rBGH the way Monsanto wanted it told. "We (the Fox TV network)
paid $3 billion for these television stations. We will decide what the news is.
The news is what we tell you it is." So much for freedom of the press in the era
of Corporate Power.

Emily Kane: Really, Charles, people will think...
Charles Foster Kane: ...what I tell them to think!
(He accentuates his last word by clinking down his coffee cup.)

Maybe Bill O'Reilly threatened to quit if they ran the ad.
