Happy Birthday, Dale! May you see 40... 400... 4000 more!
Thanks, Jamais! Daniel Dennett taught me to think of the self as "a center of narrative gravity" and it is hard to imagine that the particular narrative I happen to incarnate could be intelligibly prolonged 4000 years -- but certainly it will be interesting to see what comes next!
We're nearly birthday twins! (Well, by day, anyway - we're a bit off in years!)
Happy (belated) birthday, and I don't believe that age for a moment.
Happy belated birthday, Dale! I turned 42 myself a few weeks ago so I guess I can comisserate. I can't really sustain a coherent center of narrative for more than a few minutes let alone centuries! But it would be nice to have the time to attain that level of coherence if medicine allows for it.
