Today's Republican Party

Raw Story:
Vandals defaced the campaign headquarters of Wayne Powell, Rep. Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) Democratic challenger, spray-painting “Baby Killer” on the building and writing “N*****r Lover” on a sign outside another campaign office.

Not every Republican is a racist, but without white racism no Republican could be elected to anything anywhere.

Not every Republican is anti-science, but most of the GOP's signature policy positions -- from their denialist views on climate change, their faith in the efficiency of privatizing public and common goods, their hostility countercyclical stimulus spending, their insistence on a negative impact of progressive taxes on economic growth, their belief in the adequacy of abstinence only sex miseducation, their distaste for harm reduction drug policies, their certainty in the efficacy of capital punishment, their attraction to racial profiling in policing, their belief in fetal pain, their preference for creationism over Darwinian evolution, their faith in a "Real America" that is white, evangelical, and as sexist as it is heterosexist -- are simply not compatible with empirical observation and analysis.

Not every Republican is a liar, but every one who is not lying is deceived.

A reality check is in the mail. It should be arriving Tuesday night. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

I think they'll pack their next nomination fight with a load of flavour of the month whackjobs to split the nativist vote while the party rallies behind somebody who flip flops between being severly conservative and a token attempt at centrism just like they did this time. The GOP will have to spend quite a while in the hinterlands before they make a serious attempt to redefine their coalition. The racism is far too ingrained in the party for this to happen soon.
