Here Comes the Sun

Political Wire:
A new Associated Press-GfK poll shows Democrats now leading the generic congressional ballot, 45% to 40%, a reversal from last month when Republicans led by three points.

All the usual caveats and exhortations to work our asses off still apply, but this is a reminder that the retirement terrain does not favor Republicans in terms of sheer numbers, that the dismal approval numbers for Congressional Democrats are nonetheless higher than the approval for Congressional Republicans, that the Media infatuation with Teabaggers may whomp up the know nothing authoritarian Republican Base but that this may be more trouble than it is worth to Republicans as an actually organized party rather than as some kind of old white racist hick dance craze, and that Obama remains popular and his economic and other policies might well become coattails rather than anvils by Election Day. Enthusiastic Village Punditocrat declarations that Democrats were going to lose the House or that the Senate was going to have Democrats deeper in the Deep Muddy always made great headlines but never made great sense, but with the narrative of a turning tide already taking hold one might begin to wonder if far more interesting and favorable possibilities are emerging for November. We'll know for real in August.
