British Petroleum's Hostile Invasion, Occupation, and Looting of America Continues

BP CEO Tony Hayward ordering American press people and other American citizens on a public beach to "get out of here."

As Atrios pithily puts the point: "It's BP's America. We just live it. At least until they kill us."

Seize their assets. Divert the money entirely over to emergency cleanup and real compensation for the victims of these criminal acts. Throw BP's smug executives into a POW camp. Get a handle on this earthshattering travesty, Obama.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about the disastrous response we're seeing from BP, but I can also sympathize with Hayward not wanting to be mobbed by reporters everywhere he goes, especially while he's trying to survey the damage in person. They said "Get out of here," but they didn't physically escort anyone away or threaten arrest. Seems like they just wanted some space. For the record, the mob of reporters continued to follow them.

Also, with the recent video of the Coast Guard threatening people with arrest to get off the beach, while citing "BP's rules" was a bad idea, public lands certainly can be shut down during emergencies and disasters to protect the public, and I think this qualifies. Would you want surfers going on into the oil slick? How about children playing on the beach? It is within their power to arrest people who go into dangerous areas, for better or worse.

I wonder if the Obama Administration should shut down all BP properties until they can be certified as safe.

So, it appears that those long orange 'booms' meant to keep the oil spill contained are just for show.

Why can't the news media report this stuff?

I definitely don't understand why BP PR criteria still seem to govern media frames and news accounts and even basic access to knowledge in this disaster, especially given the widespread hostility to BP and the palpable impossibility that they can successfully fool all the people all the time about a cluster fuck this epic in scale and in consequences anyway. Completely bewildering.
