Not Feeling It

If I weren't out in the world teaching, I would retreat for a week into a vault too thick walled and deep underground for media to penetrate. Because when I contemplate all the trumped-up war dances and terror-threats, all the ugly racist and queer baiting smears, all the vapid "some say the earth is flat, others round" corporate "balancing" of Republican deceptions, it's hard to know how we're going to make it through this last insanely stupid disgusting storm of endless poop this week before the Elections.

As I said before, one hopes that McCain regains his composure and realizes that he could still be a noble statesman for a few more years, and, upon reflection, realizes just how desperate and ugly his campaign has become, and decides to lose gracefully and to salvage his political career in pursuit of greater causes and Common Goods (seems like even Palin is distancing herself from McCain in preparation for the inevitable).

Then reality sets in and I poignantly recognize this will not happen.
