Global Phyle for Social Democrats

Democracy is simply the idea that people should have a say in the social decisions that affect them. It is an idea with infinitely many possible and actual implementations, and even if we democrats manage to re-write the world in the image of our values "democracy" will remain an unfinished project, an ongoing occasion for yet another experiment in collaboration, responsibility, and public play.

Depending on my mood, my audience, and the problems I'm thinking about from moment to moment, the flavor of my own democratic temperament tends to shift a bit. Usually, I think I am best described as a relatively common or garden variety liberal democrat, but there are definitely times when I feel the pull of social democracy or radical democracy instead. (Usually this happens whenever I spend too much time reading the market fundamentalist nonsense of neocons and negative libertarians.)

Anyway, I wanted to bring to your attention an intriguing little experiment called "The Virtual & Global Social Democratic Party - Political Education Worldwide." This purports to be the first intercontinental education platform of the social-democratic grassroots to communicate only on-line and to promote direct exchange between democratic militants throughout the world. This exchange is offered in 21 languages.

Everybody is invited to explore the 191 topics and proposals in what they call "The Guests' Harbor". They can be seen without a password. You will find further offers in their Forum - discussions, personal site and chats. Here you need a password. You can request one free of charge and without obligation at the Administration: administration@virglob-sp.org

Check it out, and make yourself at home if you like.
