Bush's Reptilian Back Brain

It is only because incurious George seems so stolid and blank that meat-head Karl Rove appears, by start contrast, so brainy. I don't doubt that he is cunning and clever in a quotidian way, but it seems to me his successes have depended more on his ruthlessness than on some kind of genius. It seems to me Rove has been if anything oafish in the extreme in his handling of this campaign season, mis-timing the State of the Union, staging comically misfiring photo-ops and campaign ads, floating all kinds of policy trial balloons to make the doof seem Presidential, floundering around with a skyscraper-sized pile of money to spend and a willingness to indulge in outrageous character assassination as his only real assets. With each passing week it becomes clearer that Rove's strategies have been attributed with genius just because he has been gifted with a surreally compliant corporate press that has rarely questioned his moves aloud and has lapped at his egregious spin with the purring compliance of kittens at a milk-saucer.
